"ATHLETES Have To Know About This GAME CHANGER Diet!" | Mariske Strauss

Dr. Anthony Chaffee interviews Marisa Strauss, a South African elite cyclist with 23 years of racing experience, who transformed her health and athletic performance by transitioning from a high-carbohydrate diet to carnivore. After suffering from myocarditis, chronic illness, and autoimmune issues including severe asthma and dairy allergies, Marisa discovered that eliminating plants and eating only meat, salt, and water revolutionized her well-being. Her remarkable recovery included the complete resolution of lifelong asthma, elimination of dairy intolerance, and disappearance of monthly cold sores that had plagued her for three years.

The conversation reveals how Marisa's athletic performance actually improved on carnivore, despite conventional sports science recommending 80-120 grams of carbohydrates per hour during competition. She completed three-hour cycling sessions on water and salt alone, without the typical lactate buildup and muscle burning sensation. Her recovery time dramatically decreased, and she placed just off the podium in a marathon race despite minimal training following her illness. Most remarkably, she maintained excellent performance while pregnant, continuing to train and compete at five months gestation.

Dr. Anthony Chaffee provides crucial context about human evolutionary biology, explaining why cholesterol is essential rather than harmful, and how the human brain primarily runs on ketones, not glucose. He addresses common concerns about vitamin C deficiency on carnivore, explaining that meat provides pre-formed hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine, eliminating the need for vitamin C in collagen synthesis. The discussion challenges mainstream nutritional dogma by examining historical evidence showing that heart disease was virtually unknown before 1912, despite higher meat consumption and widespread smoking, suggesting that modern chronic diseases stem from plant-based foods and processed carbohydrates rather than animal products.

Key Takeaways

  • Elite athletes can maintain and improve performance on carnivore diet alone, completing 3-hour cycling sessions on just water and salt without the typical lactate buildup and muscle burning
  • Chronic autoimmune conditions including lifelong asthma, dairy allergies, and recurring cold sores can completely resolve within 1-3 months of adopting strict carnivore diet
  • Pregnant women can safely continue carnivore diet and maintain athletic training, with many experiencing elimination of morning sickness and food aversions when eating only meat
  • Vitamin C supplementation is unnecessary on carnivore diet because meat provides pre-formed hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine, eliminating the body's need to synthesize these compounds for collagen production
  • Heart disease was essentially unknown before 1912 despite higher meat consumption and 80% of men smoking, with the first documented heart attack requiring publication because physicians had never seen the condition
  • Human brains preferentially run on ketones over glucose - when both are available, the brain chooses ketones, making them the true primary fuel for optimal neurological development
  • Recovery time between intense training sessions dramatically improves on carnivore diet, eliminating the multi-day soreness previously attributed to lactic acid buildup
  • Adult human brain size has decreased 11% in men and 17% in women since the introduction of agriculture 10,000 years ago, suggesting plant-based diets impair proper neurological development

people look at meat as protein and fat but you've got all your essential vitamins and minerals in the meat and in the fat everything is available and a lot more bio available than you do get in the plants back to the cholesterol thing it's I don't I don't 100% believe your body is going to produce something itself that's going to be bad for you as Dr Westman says cholesterol is not a disease atherosclerosis is a disease you should treat atherosclerosis you don't need to treat cholesterol welcome to the plant-free MD podcast with Dr Anthony chaffy where we discuss diet and nutrition and how this affects health and chronic disease and show you how you can use this to optimize your health and happiness both mentally and physically hello everyone thank you for joining another episode of the plan freemd I'm your host Dr Anthony chaffy and today I have a very special guest a an Elite cyclist from South Africa Miss marit and is joining me today to tell us about her experience going on a carnivore diet and transitioning as a as a lead athlete from carbs to no carbs Marisa thank you so much for joining thanks so much for having me you're welcome so for people haven't come across you can you tell us a bit about you yeah so I've got about 23 years Racing Experience um like you said I've been of recently converted some more carnivore based um training I obviously grew up high carb high carb lifestyle um and racing wise that was we were taught actually it's ridiculous 80 to 120 grams of carbs an hour um that was the standard that was given to us so mostly cross country um cross country World Cup racing and also so in South Africa we are very prone to Marathon racing so big stage races like the EPS pepic s Tre K pioner Tre is basically it's it's a normal stock standard year for me um yeah I've been doing it for 23 years and the last year actually last year this time I was diagnosed with myocarditis so took the year off last year had a whole bunch of health issues leading up to that and now I'm pregnant so been been going through a whole bunch of changes and um the last three months started I want to say September um actually augusti is my husband came to me and he's like I think you should track hardner more and that was it was definitely definitely a big change for me and I was like well I've cut out wheat I've cut out gluten I've done so many different changes trying to figure out my heal and nothing seems to be like yes this works and the gluten and the weed made a big difference but I was like I'm eating half the stuff I used to eat anyway so let's just give myself a clean slate I mean I did a lot of research on the subject and everything that was said and everything I read made so much sense to me so I was like I think I'll give it a try um yeah gave it a try and it was absolutely phenomenal and that said I did also study BAC sports science at stos University so I know the physiology I know what the literature says I know why they say eat high carb but in the same breath I also understand why carnivore makes a lot more sense to me um and I mean if you think about it carbs is the only non-essential macro so it doesn't make sense to me that it's recommended to eat 40 to 65% of your diet needs to consist of cars why why is this the cake it doesn't make sense to me um and from personal experience it's just it's just lifechanging so I think meat saved my life oh good so so how are you doing now so what was the the difference when you went you just went pure meat and water and and what happened um yeah so for the first three months I went I think actually for the first month I did water salt meat and eggs um and then I started adding little bit of caffeine so a cup of coffee every week just because cyclist I mean you generally live on coffee but actually that said I haven't been able to con consume caffeine just because of my bladder so I was then later diagnosed with cystitis as well um which is of course inflammation of your bladder wall so that was a that was a trigger for me too um and then having been carnivore for a month I was able to tolerate caffeine for the first time in probably a year and a half um the obviously meat salt water for that first man then caffeine um then I added Dairy I think as well so cheeses and yogurts and I was 100% fine with that um and then actually after three months I was like sh something's wrong my period went away and I think this is actually the the really cool part of being female you've got this internal measure to see if your body is doing well and if if your hormones are balanced and if everything's happy um and then my period disappeared and I was like well there's two reasons that could happen like it's either my diet changed that like completely threw everything out of whack or I'm pregnant so I mean I did a test and it came back negative so I was like okay maybe it's the DI it so I started adding a whole bunch of other stuff and then felt horrible um a couple of weeks later it turned out I was pregnant so it wasn't the diet yeah um and that said in those three three and a half months when I still had my period my period pains went away the intensity of it diminished completely and I always struggled with like super heavy periods and and issues with that as well and that all stabilized um so I just all around I had a phenomenal experience and that's not even coming to my racing and my riding um that was just me as a as a human being actually functioning human being for a change um and then coming back to healthwise and carnivore I have been allergic to Terry my entire life and I've had asthma my entire life I don't have any of those issues now I can consume Dairy um obviously I don't I don't consume ridiculous amounts but previously a glass of milk half a glass of milk was like okay this is my limit I can't I can't do more than that or I'd get severe issues M don't have problems with that anymore also I haven't taken my asthma medication since I started carnivore and finnally enough I'm also ADHD and I haven't been on those medications either so it's like everything just seems to balance balance out and I think also I think maybe it's because and you'd be able to obviously say but obviously with with eating carbs and plants and all of those you've got a lot you've got a lot of foreign pesticides and toxins and everything so maybe it's just because your immune system is at capacity now adding milk or dairy is just like okay this is way overboard and then we blame the milk and the dairy instead of looking at all the other things that might play a role in it yeah yeah very well could be so as far as your your your cycling and your training was concerned you obviously you had you had the M carditis which is obviously very serious um did you do you fully recover from that is that okay now yeah 100% recovered um yeah good I went for scans about a month a month and a half ago and yeah they say everything looks perfect so good yeah good job yeah and then so have you have you been training since you've been going on on Carnivore how's that been going it was absolutely amazing obviously with the pregnancy it changed it changed slightly but if I look at what happened before then um I mean a general ride for me a general three-hour ride I would consume a ton of carbs um whether in my in my drink and on the bike eating it was it was a ridiculous amount um so much so that I thought before I went carnivore I told my husband I don't know how healthy this is like for my teeth even like consuming so much sugar it can't be good for you like getting cavities just you just feels um and going carnivore I went for like a three-hour ride not getting hungry I was like on Water I do add a little bit of salt like a half a Twist of sea salt into my water just for some extra electrolytes I don't even know if that's necessary I sometimes don't even do that um and I was like okay let's see I actually always have a snack in my back pocket just just in case but I went those three months without ever needing to eat it I was like I could probably change this out spin in my back pocket for three months um but yeah just felt phenomenal didn't get tired didn't get hungry and that Burnie feeling in my legs obviously lactate build up I just also never had that um obviously lactate is a byproduct of the glycolytic system so well you'd be able to explain better how that how that works but then to me it just makes sense that you don't have a dump of carbs that your body has to process so you also don't have the the byproduct of of that system yeah yeah and and also um I mean you can you know you will eventually sort of you know build up a burn you if you're doing you know Anor robic sort of work but it uh I find it to be a lot a lot less you can you can tolerate a lot more you can push yourself a lot harder and then you recover a lot faster your oxygen debt is is much more yes quick to to you know recover and then the next day you what people have blamed on lactic acid buildup U you you're sore for the next few days oh that's that's lactic acid I like no that that first part was lactic acid remember that thing that went away it didn't come back you know and so yes I must say yeah and so yeah that soreness you know that that's you know from these inflammatory factors in Plants I found and so how did you find that you know obviously you know when when you're training at that high level when you're competing at that higher level your body is just going to be in bits after training and competitions and things like that how was your how was your recovery before and after carbs before carbs well when I was still consuming carbs it was not great I mean you you try and do do everything you can compression pants oxygen chamber sessions like you name it I've probably tried it um and it it still took you a fair couple of days to to feel normal again um with and obviously I haven't done that intensity because recovering from health issues so that that would still be interesting for me to see but the bits I have done I felt fantastic I did do a stage race where we did go Fairly fairly hard and I didn't have any issues I felt amazing um it was yeah it's and you sleep well to me I felt like I slept so much better like just decent proper sleep where I wake up in the morning be like okay I'm ready for the day whereas the last two two and a half years obviously I was sitting with my partis so that might have played a role as well but I can't remember when last I woke up in the morning be like I'm well rested today I constantly woke up feeling EX exhausted and you you take your magnesium and then you take this and then you take that and it's like nothing seemed to work um and that said I also got sick a lot all of the time um I mean I had cold sores maybe once a month for going on three years so that's that's I mean that's also an indication your immune system is just completely Shar um and now touchwood I haven't been sick since I've I've done this so something definitely working yeah nice hey guys just want to take a second to thank our sponsor at carnivore bar I don't promote many products because honestly all you need to be healthy is to just eat meat for those times that you're out hiking road tripping or stuck at work and you want nutritious snack that is just meat fat and salt if you want it the carnivore bar is a great option so I like this product not because it's just pure meat but also because I want the carnivore Market to thrive as well and the more we support meat only products the more meat only products will be available in the mainstream so if this sounds like something you'd like to get behind check it out using my discount code Anthony to get 10% off which also applies to subscriptions giving you 25% off total all right thanks guys yeah i' I I used to get sick all the time I would get sick I mean I would get colds at least once a month it was almost it was almost like just a running joke with my friends like I was just always sick oh I'm a little sick like of course you're all I mean yeah it's you you you know it's it's you yeah you know your was and so you know I I just had to go to school sick I had to play sick I had to compete sick I had to train sick it was just I always had just this background cold and misery that I was feeling and uh and it sucked and that that really hasn't happened since and and even more than that because you know you're playing rugby in the in the winter months in Seattle of all places like why would you play a winter sport in seatt an outside sport in Seattle in the winter but you know that's what was there there and so I I would get sick all the time and then I would if I wasn't very careful that would go into my lungs and I'd get I'd get pneumonia and I would get pneumonia at least once a year if not two or three times you know confirmed on x-ray and you know and I just that's not good no it wasn't good and I just I would just play I would just play with it and I remember you know had pneumonia recovered you know got on antibiotics and was feeling better I just kept going and I just felt like my asthma was maybe just a bit acting up it was just getting a bit worse getting a bit worse end up going to the doctor yeah maybe my my asthma medication needs to be hopped up because I'm just you I was having a more trouble breathing and playing and training and things like that he's like okay you just listen to my lungs he's like all right you know you know why don't we just get an x-ray real quick he came back he's like yeah you have pneumonia I was like still like I just said that you know that's been three months now and it just you know felt better than it did but it just sort of just lingered on so maybe it just came back again but I was just you know was I was just so used to being sick you know I was I was playing with full-blown pneumonia and and competing and training with full-blown pneumonia with my friends from Durban South Africa I was telling you about when I was in playing rugby in San Diego and so that was that was just normal for me and then you know at at 38 you know I stopped eating plants and just really never sick again you know maybe once or twice and it's just nothing like it was and you know over six years you I really just haven't I wouldn't even get sick once a year you know I've maybe been sick once or twice in the last six years and sometimes I'll feel a bit run down and a bit tired like oh why is that you know why am I tired and then I notice that people around me they they all have the flu and I'm like the only one who does it like well okay well maybe this this is what feeling sick like feeling sick is like now and uh and you know I got covid and I was you know felt pretty wretched for a day and then it was was just sort of tired for for a week after that and that was it you know so that's amazing yeah so it you know it's definitely something that that helps your immune system I I was I was floored by that and that's something that a lot of people have seen so that's good that uh that you've seen that too I think that's the biggest thing it's like I thought my Baseline was over here and I was like I feel fantastic now and then doing this you're like well actually your Baseline like way up there been like sitting with a whole bunch of inflammation your entire life yeah and you just you just well that's the thing say you have this like Baseline level of garbage that you feel and but you call that normal because it's just it's normal for you and so it's just like you you have all this stuff plaguing your body and plaguing your system and you just don't realize how terrible you feel and then all of a sudden you get it all out of your system you're like oh really okay that's how I could have been feeling my entire life well that was okay you exactly yeah I was like I'm robbed I've been robbed my entire life yeah well I mean for sure well I mean imagine you know I mean you imagine you know your 20 years of cycling feeling like this you know that's the thing it's like I'm actually so excited to start racing again I was like people just need to was out when I Dro this handbrake of mine like yeah it's G to be it's going to beic yeah so um what were some of the biggest so obvious you haven't been training at like at that level um as as you were before just due to the pregnancy and the myocarditis but sort of what what what sort of level of intensity have you gotten to because you know I've spoken to people actually cyclist there's a there's a gentleman I I was on his podcast in Ireland very nice guy and he you know has things for a lot of elite cyclists and and the concern they have of dropping carbs is that okay well maybe you can you can have this energy but you know eventually but can you replenish your glycogen fast enough f faster than sucking down you know sugar packets so you can you compete at that ultra high capacity um you know better or worse you know without carbs do you have what was your experience with that so this is this is what I'm still experience experimenting with and I think I'm I'm just being my biggest experiment at the moment um because like you say you are you're running at at a super super high threshold for me the the intervals I have done and the racing I've done I mean I did it's obviously it's a marathon Race so it's not it's not a cross country race so cross country and Marathon slightly different in the sense that obviously for Marathon you're doing a sustained effort for three hours but you still you're still doing it at a decent intensity um for cross country it's like flat box constantly from from the gun goes off till you cross that finish line so that would still be really interesting for me to to experience and to see the the training I've done in the meantime I mean it it might also be there's a whole bunch of factors at play here with obviously not having myocarditis anymore that I think that helps that helps a lot as well but I just remember I did intervals the one day and I could just carry on going I just had it felt like unlimited energy and every single interval I was just like okay well when when am I going to get tired and I just never had that dip or that schlump that you get from obviously your blood sugar drops when you're on carbs at some point it's it's just going to happen um I just never had that and to me personally I haven't felt that I needed carbs or added extra things um and the marathon Race I did you sitting at I think averaged at about 182 beats per minute which is still I mean it's a it's quite high intensity um and again what I consumed was a sachche so we've got a product called butter nut it's basically just mashed up macadamia nuts so I did have that which is obviously it's you do have a little bit of carbs in that but it's mostly fats um so I did add that just to it's EAS to consume then than taking a piece of bolong or jerky what youd call it um but that also said I've always even before I went carnivore I've always consumed boiled eggs on the bike for some other reason I've just found them well easy to eat and and good just because I get so sick of the sweet stuff um which I don't have a problem now CU I'm not consuming it but it's it's a yeah it's just a different experience so I would still I would still be interested to see how my body reacts doing a cross country race on Carnivore um I haven't done it as yet so if somebody has please please do let me know I would love to to hear how that was and how how you find it but yeah it's the marison side of things I haven't had had any problem with it yeah so how was your how was your performance on the marathon um you know now on Carnivore versus like your previous times and and performances um so I kind of went last minute someone roped me into a race I wasn't planning on doing it just because I was obviously still recovering and just getting back into riding more intensely after my carditis um but considering the training I did beforehand and how I raced I we we were just off the podium and so to me that was like this is amazing I haven't done training the entire year and I'm just off of the podium like yeah either I'm okay or everybody else is maybe not so much okay well but also not not only have you not been training all year you basically you were in the hospital you and then you know recovering from sure yeah or exactly exactly no for sure so it's um it's exciting to see and it's exciting to see my body change um and just how my body's changed like literally literally I can see my body change um whether it's if I add carbs back in or take it completely out it's like literally night and day from day to day my husband's even like yes like he's like the other day we went writing he's like I think your fat cells are just getting inflamed when you eat carbs so I was like thanks thanks love because it's like literally instantly you can see cellulite and I've always had problems with with like I'm sure every female can can relate like we've got problem areas your thighs your stomach your arms like there's problem areas for I mean everybody's different but as females we have definite problem areas um and I think corbs definitely ex like exacer amplifies that yeah that's the word I'm looking for um so obviously with having got gotten pregnant all the all the medical advice is no you have to have carbs and you have to have this and you have to have this and I was like well like who am I to not that I not that I said that but because I am doubting all medical advice at the moment um just because everybody says do this and I'm like well personal experiences that does not work for me so I'm not a medical practitioner I'm not a nutritionist but I know what's worked for me and just because it's worked for me doesn't mean it's going to work for everybody but it's just it's just mindblowing the change that I experienced and with getting pregnant I was like okay let's maybe maybe maybe try adding to certain things and to be fair for especially from week four to 11 it was hard for me to consume fats um pork was especially hard eggs was also a little bit tricky and also just the volume that I used to eat so for breakfast I would easily eat six eggs a massive tablespoon of butter and three rations of bacon that was my breakfast and that would probably lost me most of the day and then not eatting evening again but with the pregnancy that kind of changed because everything obviously moves around and your stomach goes that way and this goes that way so I think everything shrunk and then I just couldn't I'm still struggling with it so maybe you can give me some advice on that but like I'm struggling to consume the quantities I did beforehand um and then obviously slight food aversions so I did start adding other things but I've just felt ever since um and like the last two three weeks I went more full carnivore again and my gut issues are fine again cellulites disappearing like I'm just feeling a lot better and a lot more energetic and I think for a pregnant lady that's that's something something good to to hear yeah are you still training now that you're pregnant yes yes I am planning I'm actually doing a race well a race I'm riding I'm riding it's a 4day a four day stage race um in a month's time so I'm I'll probably be five months well probably I'm going to be five months pregnant by then 20 weeks yes so we'll see the plan is to carry on going as long as I can read the hand reach the handlebars and be be comfortable in the bike I'm obviously fat B baby um but to me I can't see the problem with it like obviously I'm doing it a lot slower and I'm a lot more cautious but in my mind I'm not sick so I can't see the the problem with carry on writing so I think actually it'll it'll help the the labor process yeah yeah well you know we're designed to be active when we're pregnant you know you your pregnant lions chasing pregnant gazel you know and one of them winning and so exactly you got to be fit you know the idea that you know we're supposed to be you know fat ankled and swollen and bleeding oh my God my ankles you know and like you're like you know migrating across the you know the step is just like that's a recipe for disaster I mean that's just like you're gon to get eaten you're a Target you know something's goingon to kill you that's not that's not a recipe for survival so you know it's it you know it does make sense that we should be able to be active at least have the the capabilities of being active and so you know maybe not you know uh not everyone has to do RAC race but you know um but at least be capable of being being active you should be able to you know if you're just I I've never seen you know a zebra puke while pregnant I've never seen lions with morning sickness I've never seen an elephant just puke up a bathtub of vomit because they had morning sickness you know it's just like this that's not a thing you know outside of of the human species when we're eating outside of our evolved diet you know I would I would bet you know I you know if anyone studied you know the you know pregnancy and things like that and the you know the innuit when eating their traditional diet or the Messiah when eating their traditional diet because they don't eat their traditional diet anymore unfortunately there aren't many examples where they're they're eating their own their traditional diets anymore I'm sure there some but they you know it's very far and few between yeah exactly and so you know I think that that's I think that's your your body just trying to expel this stuff and saying hey there's a baby in here idiot you can get this out and um and that's why you know speaking to uh Dr Robert Kilz who's a fertility expert he's OBGYN in America um you know he thinks that this is that that people have food aversions or even meat aversions because your your body just telling you to fast for a bit and just just don't eat anything for a bit and and so you know it's not that you have a meat aversion that you shouldn't eat meat so you just shouldn't eat anything if your body's telling you not to eat meat it's basically telling you not to eat and that that's what he feels so even having a couple days of fasting um Dr Gary F he's orthopedic surgeon in Australia he sort of felt the same thing because it's very important for fetuses and and growing babies being ketosis and in fact fetus are in ketosis and even uh nursing infants will be in ketosis as well or they're supposed to be because that's how the brain grows you know they need a lot of ketones for the brain to grow the ketones are your your brain's primary energy source why do I say that because everyone says that glucose is the primary energy source it's not how do I how do I know that well when you have an abundance of glucose and an abundance of ketones your brain only runs on the ketones so that's a preference they are gluc there is glucose available it chooses not to do that so there's a mechanism involved that it says when there's ketones those come in and then if you don't have enough ketones then it'll fill the gaps with glucose and I mean I learned that in Biochemistry 20 20 some years ago right 21 years ago now and um so you know so that that's not right also ketones cross the bloodb brain barrier freely they don't need insulin or anything else and they reconstitute into fatty acids and so that's the majority of your structural component of your brain are are fats and so those ketones yeah turn into fats and they they're used to grow your brain and so babies need to be in ketosis because their brain has to be uh has to have a lot of ketones in order to grow and develop properly which is why I think that you know since agriculture the average adult male brain capacity brain size has shrunk by 11% that was an instant there was there was like an exponential growth in brain size and height in and our ancestors up until 10 15,000 years ago and bang sharp Spike down and it was just before and after agriculture was just night and day and that so 11% in Men 177% in women and that is persisted until today so it's it's quite dramatic the the the difference that is insane yeah so if you you know just let your kid be in ketosis and feed them the right thing their brain should be 11 to 17% larger than than their than their peers you know on average so you're going to have a very clever baby yeah exactly you know and and tall and athletic because the neurology the the neurological system is going to develop better as well it's going to be much more much more um you know tuned up you know and so you're you're just going to be you're just going to be a healthier individual both physically and mentally and so you know it's um it's you know it's really interesting you you sort of tried that you know you're doing carnivore and then you're sort of adding some other things like oh that didn't work know that's not what my body wants and you know I think that's really telling I think your body is saying is just like don't do that you know don't there's a baby in here don't mess around and so you know um yeah as far as like eating more you know just I think you just you just eat what your body's telling you to eat you know eat very fatty meat and then don't eat anything else I have to say I've been like craving fat like not the meat side of things like I've just been I was like just give me the fat I was like eating my husband's fat the other day um and to be honest I haven't actually had any morning SI I had zero morning sickness I didn't have any well a little bit more like food diversions I think I spoke to you in December about that and you're like just fast which was to me I think as any young mother to be it's the one thing that you think you shouldn't do is fast because you're like I've got a growing baby I need to constantly consume stuff um and then when I did that I was like actually I feel better now um and then obviously so those first couple of weeks I did add carbs in all shapes and sizes trying to figure out what actually just what my body could handle because obviously I'm coming from I was sick I wasn't like a healthy person that went carnivore and I'm fine it was I couldn't eat half the stuff anyway so carnivore helped me with that I was like actually I feel like normal human being again um and then I got pregnant so then I was like okay now everything's just messed up again and there just like adding stuff I was like nope that doesn't work adding more stuff I like nope that doesn't work and just like constantly being bloated again obviously with pregnancy you do get bloated I think a little bit more because also your entire gut biome changes I think um like everything everything changes when you get pregnant so that's fun um and then just generally now with the last couple of weeks being more carnivore based I do still have yogurt and cheese and I'll have some blueberries um mostly seasonal stuff um but I mean that's like 10 blueberries maybe every third day or something so it's nothing substantial I don't think um I feel a lot better like I feel like a different human being again um and I think I think that's just the biggest thing like just listen to your body for a change instead of trying to to tick all the boxes that everybody says you need to tick um and I mean if I go on what they say I have to eat it's like there's half the stuff that's on there I can't eat like I know I can't eat just because I'm going to get bloated and I'm going to get constipated and I'm going to get feel sick and feel for the next four or five days my husband was like do you want some Peaches I was like no I think I'm fine so to me it's like a way up like do I really want it or do I really want to feel for the next four days that's that's kind of my way up at the moment yeah yeah well you know but that that's that's um you know really good to know about you know when you know that your body's going to feel really horrible you know it's a good deter like yeah I don't want to eat that and um you know it's it's pretty easy to stay on task and do something that you know is you know likely the best thing for us anyway I certainly believe that anyway and you know people say you know you I've been doing this for a while and they say like well you just really did do you ever cheat you ever do was like no they don't don't ever have any of that and um and they're like they're like w that takes a lot of discipline you're just really disciplined I'm like no I'm not I'm not I'm not all that disciplined it doesn't take doesn't really take any discipline to do exactly what you want to do you know it doesn't take any discipline to refuse to eat things that you don't want to eat you know it's it's pretty straightforward actually just just rolls you know right along with with what you're doing I have absolutely no interest in that stuff you know I know I know what I felt like before I started eating this way I know what I feel now and I'm I'm not going back to that crap and now I know objectively why that stuff made me feel horrible and it's just no no no absolutely not I'm not going to put that poison in my body it's just it's just not just not going to happen you know unless I'm like stranded somewhere and dying and like I have to eat you know a banana or something like that to survive like it's just not going to happen you know I'm not I'm not going to eat that crap and so it it really takes no discipline at all you know I go to a restaurant I just be like you know just grab that whatever it's like I don't look at the other things as food it's it just doesn't register for me it's just crap you know and I just it's actually freeing yeah it is it's very freeing you know you're like oh what do I have and what do I do and what can I do and how much can I have and do I do this it's just like steak Yeah that's it so give me your biggest steak and I'll just eat to L done whereas if you're on a the normal Western diet it's like oh calorie counting and this little piece and that little piece and I was like surely surely it's not supposed to be this difficult to to look like a normal functioning human and be healthy um and to me the biggest thing is if our diet was really healthy why is the majority of the population overweight and why is everybody struggling to lose weight like we're not like if I look at nature I there's not one animal in nature that's fat and overweight and obese um and to me I think the biggest thing that that made me decide okay let's try carnivore it's one of it I was like half the stuff that I'm consuming is going straight into the toilet so why am I eating so much food that I can't actually digest that was my biggest thing and with like a going carniv maybe go to the toilet once or twice a week and I'm like and for the first time of my life it's like okay I've had a good solid bow movement and I feel good to go for the next for the next stt whereas eating plants it was just constantly a struggle yeah yeah I know it's funny to talk about but like it's um but it's true you I mean you can't absorb this stuff you can't digest it so why would we think we're designed to eat this stuff why would we think that this is what we're what's good for us to eat if we can't even digest the damn stuff that doesn't make any sense and you can you going break down digest and absorb and get perfect nutrition from you know meat it's just like that's a no-brainer and you know just it's compounded with all all the rest of the evidence um you know it's just it's um it's it's sort of funny you know like people that that really detract from eating meat or or you know even exclusively eating meat but it's just it's a lot of time it's just been eating meat at all you know it's um it they have to sort of keep reaching and keep sort of coming from from different sorts of angles because it's just like you know they'll come with well you can't do it because it causing cancer well no that's definitively not the case well you know causes hard disas NOP that's definitively not the case you know and and just they just jump from thing to thing to thing to thing to thing it's just like you know when are you going to admit that you're in a cult and that this is an ideology and you know and a religion to you and you're and or you're trying to push an agenda or a relig you like an ideology or something like that or you're trying to make money off people or something like that like this isn't this isn't um you know this isn't something that that holds up to argue and if you if you constantly are just jumping from lily pad to Lily Pad you know just avoiding the reality you know it you just have to at some point just realize that you know that you're you're you're just on the wrong side of this you know like there's just like you're just you're you're losing every single time and just every single argument that you have just gets completely shut down and then you just have to jump to the next argument like it's a bad argument like that's all there is to it for sure no it's um it's actually fascinating to me it's yeah this the whole the whole process and everything has just been it's been eye opening I had like an outof Body Experience standing in the grocery store one day and obviously so I was like okay I'll just get a rotisserie chicken because that's the only thing essentially I could buy because everything else like literally every single aisle was just carbs on carbs on carbs on carbs on sugar on sugar on sugar was like there's actually nothing that I can buy in here really um and just looking at all of the everybody else's grocery Parts I was like it's just sugar and sugar drinks and some more sugar and then a little bit of maybe fiber um and all of it is just car based and I'm like why is that the norm yeah well you know and that and that's you know and and you made a good point you know like if if if the way we're eating is so healthy why is everyone so sick and you know in the last 40 years we've become the the fattest and sickest that we have ever been in human history and that's and that's on a global scale you know that that shouldn't happen and it really shouldn't happen in that in that amount of time and you know the I've seen these these vegan proponents you know we saying well we're told to eat less meat eat more plants and we're getting fatter and sicker than we've ever been and they say well but but people aren't actually doing what I say what I want them to do it's like well first of all you're not God second of all you're saying that you know more meat meat is bad so Less meat is is a positive and more plants are a positive you're not saying which ones you're just saying plants if you go plant-based that's better and so you know you look at the consumption data and is 100% of people eating a whole food plant-based diet no but you look at the consumption data you look at the trends and red meat consumption is dropped by over 33% in America fruits and vegetables increased by 30 and 40% respectively and then things like you know and they've replaced saturated fats and animal fats with polyunsaturated fats with trans fats for a while and that was that was fun oil and yeah and and those you know have tripled you know the consumption of of seed oils uh have more than tripled since then and you know and um and high fructose corn syrup has has more than tripled since the 70s too because you're you're you're getting rid of fat you're getting rid of meat and they have to just add in calories and junk and everything tastes like garbage now because you you've taken out all the nutrients the nutrition the meat the fat and that's why that tastes good and you have to put in a drug like sugar in order to get people to eat this stuff and and what's happened you know hard disease rates have tripled stroke rates have tripled cancer rates have tripled obesity rates have gone through the roof they've gone up by like a factor of six so is diabetes then like autoimmune disorders Alzheimer's Parkinson's autism these things have gone up dramatically mental health disorders depression anxiety I mean every teenager has a mental health issue now you know it used to be more or less rare you know cancer used to be called the seaword oh my God the seaword don't want to talk about it because it's so rare and it's so horrible and it was rare and now it now everyone's going to get it you know it's just it's just there's so many people that's there's so many people that's got cancer that I know of that I personally know of um it's just it's become like a normal it's become like the norm instead of being an outlier um and like you said like the process side of things as well I think also I think also the problem is everything is just available at all times and everything is highly processed um and I mean so I'm I'm a Christian and I had a I had a big problem not a big problem I had like some internal um I can't think of the English word now some internal dialogue going on I was like because I grew up with life is about balance and I was like okay so I mean you have to eat your plants and your veggies that's how I grew up it was just it was just the norm um but that said like my ancestors we had meat maybe rice and potatoes maybe but mostly we ate meat um coming from the Africans background and I was like okay so what does the bible actually say about this whole thing there's not one instance in the Bible actually to all the vegans go read Romans 14 it's actually revolutionary but there's not one instance where it says don't eat meat actually in all celebrations and in all festivities the biggest fattest pig was slaughtered and it was just a feast that was called a feast um the only reference I could find that said we had to eat grains was when there was times of severe hardship 4 years in the desert leaving Egypt and that's actually maybe that's beautiful maybe it's by Design um maybe it's St for those times where it's severe droughts or severe hardship because every time I eat grains or wheat or anything like that I get fat so maybe it's desire that way to sustain you for a while yeah um and then also it says you need to eat seasonally which we definitely do not anymore because I can get a mango and AO actually from Brazil which I definitely don't do but it's like you can get everything all year round and my problem with it is just there's so much pesticides and chemicals and everything's been manipulated to the point where it's not recognizable as the fruit it was once was so maybe the problem is that we've actually changed everything to the point where it's now man-made and not what it's designed to have been back in the day um it's me being philosophical about it but the only thing that's been constant through it all has been meat I think that's the majority the most untouched thing still out there yeah well we've we've always eaten meat we haven't always been sick we haven't always been obese we haven't always had these chronic diseases you know I mean the first heart attack that was that was confirmed on autopsy in America was in 1912 and and they published on it wrote it up and everyone just said you know like people are like I've done thousands of autopsies dissected thousands of Hearts you know like I've never seen that once you got it wrong and they didn't believe him for about a decade and it was because there was more and more of these sort of cropping up you know in the 1920s and they were like okay all right maybe this is something new coming up by the 1930s it was the number one killer in America and that was when we were eating the least amount of meat in America in a 200e period you know before and after sort of a U-shaped curve where from the beginning of the 1800s we eatting quite a lot of meat and then you know actually you know more than we were for most of the 20th century and then it came down and trough was in the 20s and 30s and then it started coming up again and so you know it's not there isn't even an association you know there's essentially there was no documented cases of heart disease in America in you know before 1912 and yet we had a much higher level of meat consumption during that time and and 80% of men smoked at the time you know I mean like you know so you know and then and then you know and before that in 1700s 1600s 1500s all these sorts of things I mean it's just like heart attacks weren't a thing you know people did die and they did do autopsies and they did look at why that was happening somebody would have described it oh they just didn't notice it that's you know like like Leonardo Vinci like the guy just didn't know what was up you know I me he did tons of dissections you know they did like all the artists in the Renaissance artists did tons of dissections so they could understand how the body was put together so they could make more beautiful art more realistic art and so they had they had dispensation from the church to to you know cut up bodies exactly so you know yeah they they the guy the guy you know mapped out a helicopter you know 500 years ago he would have noticed a damn blockage in your coronaries you know if this was just like like a major major killer I mean it's just just so stupid you know and um you know people made their name by describing things for the first time and we have we have medical literature and books and journals and textbooks going back thousands of years I mean we have we have the original writings of hypocrates from 2 200 years ago we have entire libraries of of Galen uh his writings from you know from the time of Marcus aurelus like people actually did pay attention and they actually did write things down and and Francis Bacon I mean people know who these people are and you just think that they just wouldn't pay attention and wouldn't understand what this is you know I mean you you you have people that that that figure out and perfectly describe the circulatory system but can't tell when there's a massive blockage in it really you know and so yeah I feel like it makes it makes no sense it's just Beggar's belief um you know but like allheim disease that's an example you know people made their name by describing something new so I mean this is just going on this is a major killer for hundreds of years thousands of years just no one noticed it you know they're naming all these diseases they're finding all these different maladies and that one just just slipped by the radar for just hundreds of years thousands of years probably not and you know Alzheimer's disease you know was named after the doctor that that described it first described it said hey there's this weird thing here's the symptoms here's what's going on I'm seeing a few of these he published it it got named after him Dr Alzheimer so it's Alzheimer's disease right and so I know I know know that's how you immortalize your name as a as a doctor and a researcher you named something you found something new and you know like Bo's Third Law you I mean like no idea who that guy is except I know his laws right but and and Alzheimer's I have known nothing about that man or any of his career except that he described this Alzheimer's dementia that's it and he did it in 1902 and there were no other maladies that that were similar to alzheimer's by another name before Alzheimer's it was a new presentation and so you know again people make their name off of describing new things and that didn't show up until the early 1900s and then heart attacks didn't really show up until you know the early 1900s and then all of a sudden they're the number one killers in the world they're the number one problems you know I had my professor in medical school said if you live long enough everyone's going to get Alzheimer's why do all lions get Alzheimer's do all elephants get Alzheimer's do all giraffes get Alzheimer's you know that doesn't make any sense you know why would we be the only animal on Earth that just gets demented and our head our brains just rot you know and was like well animals getting killed yeah sure they are but not all of them some of them die of old age and animals in the zoo they don't get killed they die of old age and they just they just go around everything's fine and one day they just curl up and fall asleep and don't wake up you know they're not they're not becoming more and more of an invalid they're not getting osteoporosis and cracking hips and falling over and losing their teeth and and not being able to understand you know what's up or down or where their food is and all these sorts of things like they're they're it's just not happening like that they're healthy happy individuals and then they die you know we're not we're decaying we're being poisoned our bodies and our brains are breaking down and it's you know it's not normal and it doesn't happen to happen then you we think about the scale of this you know the billions of people around the world that have been affected by this and afflicted by this and are continuing to be so you know this is this is a very serious issue people will you know say it's like wow you're really passionate about this I'm like how you know if you can't be passionate about this I don't know what else you can be passionate about because we're really talking about billions of people's lives you know and and for sure future Generations so you know it's uh it's just such you know it's it's so clear to me now that I've been looking at this and it's just it it just really fires me up you know that um that this has happened in the first place because there's just been just insurmountable suffering for decades now really a century and it just it needs to stop we have to stop 100% agree 100% that's why I'm also that's why I'm talking about it and because I know the experience I've had on it um and like you say Alzheimer's is that maybe not I mean it's a it's a disease of the brain your brain is decaying and the fattiest organ in the brain or in your body is your brain it needs cholesterol it needs those fats and maybe that's why it's a lot more prevalent because we've cut out the majority of our fats because fat is bad um I mean I was I was a culprit of this I I cut out my fat I never ate the fat on my meat I've never used butter I it was just you don't want to get fat so I'm cutting out all my fats and that was just what I thought was healthy and after doing this whole thing is like my whole definition of Health has changed dramatically um and to me as well with the whole cholesterol Vibe I'm not sure if I'm convinced and I don't actually think there's a study that proves cholesterol and heart disease has a correlation well you'd be able to to say that yeah to me it doesn't make sense sorry no no I was just saying there there there's correlative ones there's nothing that shows causation nothing you know and there were there were three randomized control trials with thousands of people and they showed no correlation no relationship certainly no causation uh between the two and one of them actually showed uh that you you you replaced saturated fat with polyunsaturated uh fats and linolic acid and it actually increased heart attacks and and stroke deaths you know so you know yeah it lowered LDL cholesterol and it also killed a lot of people you know with heart disease and strokes so you know this is this is crazy to me and there's there are a lot of studies that show inverse relationships between total cholesterol or LDL cholesterol and cardiovascular disease such as the Framingham study which is actually misreported and I was taught that it actually showed increased uh cholesterol increased cardiovascular disease and death no actually the data showed it was the opposite so all this stuff has been misreported and misrepresented you know and so even if you have a study that shows a correlation it doesn't mean it's there's a causation and there are tons of studies that actually show inverse correlation or no correlation no association and some that show that it causes more harm to lower LDL cholesterol with unsaturated fat so I mean it's just at this point it's you know it's only being kept alive on you know life support you know by vested interests and and paid shills really that's that's all I can that's all I can um you know sort of think about you know it's just people that are just well this is just always what it is and maybe they're just not interested and looking into it a bit further or they just have vested interest they're you know I mean the satins are the most lucrative pharmaceutical that have ever come on the market they're they're you're going to have to pry that out of their cold dead hands you know before they let go of it you know and then you've got all these just these paid shills that are just pushing this crap you know and these just these wannabe you know uh online influencers and things like that they're just spreading out pure vitual and lies you know saying that that statins extend Life by decades that's Dr Alo you're full of you know there's not a single study that says that you're a li and you know you know you push out misinformation and lies like that that can harm people that is malpractice and you should be brought up in front of the medical board for that that is ridiculous and so you know but yeah no there's there's absolutely no hard evidence that cholesterol ever caused a problem and generally the studies that they said showed a correlation with it were doctor fudged and and screwed around it was just nonsense and then the studies that showed uh the exact opposite of what they wanted prove they got buried and you know for decades and people had to like find them you know one you know one gentleman was a cardiologist and he and he found in his dad's old boxes in his basement this study you know that that showed the exact damn opposite of what everyone say a randomized control trial with thousands of people showing that people died if you lowered their LDL cholesterol with polyunsaturated fat he was like what the hell is this and then he got this was and his dad was one of the lead authors you know on this trial and and this study and he's just like what and he got people that you know crunch the numbers and then they published this they're like this is what the hell is this this massive study but you know it's being paid for by the sugar companies and they want to they want to show they want you know studies that say that cholesterol causes heart disease so they can keep pushing their poison on everyone 100% like the sugar like don't even get you started it's like one of the most addictive substance if not the most addictive substance on the planet then we're feeding it to kids that's yeah um it's scary it's uh obviously being pregnant and now I'm thinking about obviously further in the Next Generation as well how am I going to feed my kid and what should I feed my kid and what shouldn't I feed my kid um and I think it was actually one of your podcasts I watch it's like if if a kid turns his nose up to something there's a reason for it it's uh maybe we should listen to them brother and that's I think that's the that's the biggest thing to me with with carnivore now as well it's I eat till I'm satisfied and I'm eat till I'm full and then I'm like okay I've had I'm actually and actually I'm satisfied at the end of my meal whereas when I had carbs I was like constantly I was like I still I still want something it's like I'm not I'm not satisfied and I'm like still craving something zero craving zero issues at the moment um and I just told myself like listen if a kid can tell itself when okay now I've had enough now I'm full like why have we lost that like surely we should still be able to tell I've had enough food or or I've had the right food um and back to back to the cholesterol thing it's I don't I don't 100% believe your body's going to produce something itself that's going to be bad for you that doesn't make any sense yeah like like on mass it's just it's just pumping this stuff out it's like pumping you full of that it doesn't make sense no it doesn't make sense and and um you know as Dr Westman at Duke says you know cholesterol is not a disease atherosclerosis is a disease you should treat atherosclerosis you don't need to treat cholesterol cholesterol is important you die with therefore you for a reason exactly you know it's just like it's just like you know when you have LDL it's just LDL over time you'll get atherosclerosis it's just like the only thing that's doing is just causing disease it's just like the it's just just just killing you from the inside that is a recipe for an extinct species that is that is a that is a really poor model that is a terrible as a just a genetic fluke and that's not going to work you know if you're just if you're just producing you know the the you know your own destruction internally like yeah that that animal dies off that doesn't make it you know any animal that's that's alive now has come through the gauntlet of evolution we the the you know the fittest possible animal we we become the most dominant species that has ever walked the Earth and we did it as freaks that would just kill ourselves and die within couple decades if if it weren't for these just wonderful vegans trying to shove Tomatoes down our throat I mean give me a break I mean this is you know like this is you know you you our ancestors survived during ice ages not only survive but thrived and became the most most dominant species on Earth during ice ages when there wasn't anything to eat except meat and fat and so if that was just going to kill us we would have died like we just wouldn't have made it that doesn't make any sense and so you know people that that you know and and and what animal you know what animal gets gets poisoned from fat you know name name one you know like animals in the wild they eat fat they go for it there's that that show alone where they put people out on the middle of nowhere and they just you have to survive and the person who just survives out there alone for the longest you know wins and um and you get like a million dollars or something like that so like the survivalist out there um ever seen a vegan on there I haven't you know plenty of trees plenty of Twigs plenty of leaves dream you just just go around grazing all the time you never run out of food right uh no no one's ever going to get out there you know I mean you know any any vegan actually thinks that this is something that they can do it's something go go on that show see how that goes see how long you last you know you're gonna be hitting that call Bell in a few days you know it's just be like get me out this isn't gonna work or you're GNA switch to eating meat or else you're just you're gonna die that that those are the options and when a lot of these people are doing this they're they're hunting they're you know fishing they're doing all these sorts of things and they're they're storing meat so they had like little jars and things like that and little containers where they were just storing fat and they're just storing tons and tons of fat and they're like this is what I need this is going to get cold I'm going to need a lot of fat you know every single day or else I'm going to lose too much weight and I'm G to you know and I'm not going to make it and I'm going to have to get pulled out of here and uh and what happened you know there's a wolverine broke into his little spood stores and just gor on all the fat and just ate all the fat you know so these animals are eating fat that's that's you know that's the most important part is the fat they eat animals with fat they go for the fat first what animal is getting uh you know sick on this which ones are getting heart disease you know like I mean there's there's plenty of carnivores 70% of animal species are carnivores you know how many dolphins do you know that get heart disease you know I mean it's just like doesn't it doesn't make any sense that we would be the only species on Earth that that eating our naturally evolved diet of meat is somehow bad for us and um and by the way he ate the Wolverine afterwards he ended up catch getting it back so ended up getting his his stuff back but you know that's the thing you know animals eat animals you know most animal species eat other animals it's very difficult to eat plants and turn convert that into animal tissue it's very difficult to turn plant tissue into animal tissue it's a completely different form of life it's completely Kingdom of life and you're trying to turn this into um you know animal tissue it's very difficult not many animals are capable of doing that and so more animals have come around that prey on those animals that can do that or prey on the animals eating other animals eating other animals eating the plants right you know like seals are not apex predators but they are carnivores they just eat fish and other animals and they get eaten by sharks and and um polar bears and orcas and things like that and people Inuits Canadians lots of Canadians seem to like you know beating and killing seals but you know it's like it's you know it it is you know something that is normal to eat animal tissue and no animal gets sick on it including humans I think that's is I think this is also the yeah it's to me I'm just questioning everything because as a scientist that's the first thing you taught question everything and I think everybody's just lost sight of that slightly if if we were really supposed to eat all of the plants that they say we are eating question why when you're pregnant you can't consume half the stuff anyway or it's recommended not to eat half the stuff like Garlic's out Ginger like ginger is okay it helps with mosa a little bit but you can't have licorice you can't have this you can't have that like I've got this whole list of stuff that I can't consume plantwise because it's not recommended or it's bad for the fetus or it's bad for something but then why is it okay for me to consume it when I don't have a baby it's um just a question that's a good question you know and then and then people ask about you know baby well what what about a baby I obviously have to give them you know Gerber's baby food full of sugar and you know peas and mushy peas and things like that like well why wouldn't you well first of all you know kids brains need ketones and you start stuffing them full of this sugary slop because you have to have sugar because it tastes disgusting and they're going to spit it out and it's bitter and they're just going no I'm not going to eat that because their entire being is telling them that's poison don't eat it they have no problem nursing they love milk and they also love bacon and all these other things you know so you know they they will enjoy their natural food you'll never have a a picky eater if you feed your baby it's natural food you'll never have a problem feeding your baby if you're feeding it what it's designed to eat you know sugar you know obviously it's sweet it's a drug it's addictive and so you can like that too but you know that's that's an outlier that's a drug you know that that's hitting on evolutionary signal saying hey this is safe we can eat this and we can survive and so it has that sweet sort of flavor to it that's different if it t tastes bad though then it is bad right and good things taste good because they're good bad things taste bad because they're drugs and so the difference between the two is that the more of a drug you have the more you want of that drug whereas the more of meat and fat that you have the less you want as negative feedback not positive feedback like sugar you get negative feedback and eventually it doesn't taste good at all and you just stop try that with sugar try not finishing an entire box of Crispy Cream Donuts try it this is the thing it's um but that's exactly it it's we we are like my my husband actually I L at him he's like it's it's literally your brain it's it's a chemical reaction sugar is a chemical reaction it's an addictive substance he's like cocaine is it's it tells you brain tells you it's good give me more but you probably shouldn't be having cocaine it's not a good thing for you and um I kind of feel the same about sugar at the moment it's a it's like everything and also having having gone this rout and having cut out the majority of the stuff especially sugar it's when I do have it like I had it the other day I was like okay I'll have a little piece can't even remember what it was but I just remember I had a throbbing headache the entire day it's it's like once your body is used to not having it like adding it back is just like nope don't want that yeah yeah and you know that's the thing you know if your body's telling you something you know quite significant you know and and they maybe you have a oh I like that you know but that but that's it you know if people you know drink alcohol or do some other source of substance you it might first of all taste disgusting second of all you you have it and maybe you get an initial response that you like but then afterwards you just feel wretched and your body is telling you it's like that was a poison that was really dumb please don't do that again you know so you know we should listen to that you know and people you know get get similar reactions to Sugar they get this sugar high and it is a high you know it's a drug and then they crash and they feel like garbage and they're getting all agitated and freaked out I'll just give him some more candy just shut them up you know well that's going to make it worse in about 15 minutes but you know but you know that's yeah that's the thing too about you know kids they say well what do you feed kids you have to feed this what do all mammals eat after weaning right they all drink their mother's milk and then they wean on to whatever the adult is eating because they look at what the adult is eating they eat that and they eat that for the rest of their life and then they teach their kids to eat that so why would that be different with us for sure yeah well I look at my brother's little daughter and she's a massive fan of eggs it's like that's her Jam if you want her to be happy you give her you give her a plate of eggs and she's like two three eggs easy yeah nice well that would be good for her I mean it's it's great for the brain you know all the all these nutrients and and meat and eggs are great for the for the growing brain and the growing body so you know just just latch into that and just be like just there a whole trough full there you go and just yeah exactly you want them you got them yeah let's go and uh yeah well you know yeah just ner yeah it's good to nurture that sort of thing especially you know if you're is your now is your brother and your family are they interested in the carnivore sort of thing or they still think you're crazy I kind of still think I'm crazy um I think like my brother actually looked at me the other day he like the baby needs more than just meat I was like but does it does it really broccoli does it I don't think so because I mean I think the problem with people think people look at meat and they look at a piece of steak and they look at fat as protein and fat but you've got all your essential vitamins and minerals in the meat and in the fat um I think the only thing you don't get is Vitamin C um but the rest of the stuff the rest of the stuff is all there like you just everything is available and a lot more bio available I feel then you do get in the plants it's just basic biology I feel yeah no definitely and and you know and the thing is you talking about vitamin C is yeah we maybe you don't get as much in other things well first of all liver has more vitamin C than Apples you know so that's that's that for a start but you you don't need it you simply don't need it you know we you people talk about scurvy but what scurvy is is um is a misfolding of collagen so you have Proline and lysine um that need to be hydrolized and hydroline hydrazine so they can Bond tightly if it's just proling lysin they don't really bind as tight so sort of loose connective tissue it just breaks down and you bleed and you die you know it's actually very serious but when you're eating meat meat has a whole bunch of Proline and hydroly it's already hydrolized the work's already done for you you don't need Vitamin C to make that reaction go it catalyzes the reaction right so it just speeds that reaction up but if you don't if you don't need it in the first place you don't need that reaction and you don't need a catalyst for that reaction and so vitamin C is is simply not needed for collagen uh manufacturer in the body as long as you have an adequate supply of meat right and so you know that's the difference you know the British you know the British Sailors they were getting fed you know GRL and and W and rum and things like that and they were getting scurvy but the but the the officers weren't because they were getting meat and the Spanish and the French they all thought the English were full of it they're like you're getting what they're like um okay and that's why they called them lies it was perjorative they're just like all right the liy they're all sucking limes French weren't the Spanish weren't Portuguese weren't you know these were major world Naval powers and they were just like they're like okay yeah have fun with your lines idiots you know and it was just like we forget that we forget that this did not apply to you know the rest of the world powers and Leif Ericson when he when he traveled across the Atlantic and made it to North America thousand years ago with barrels full of salted Meat and Fish you know we just forget that so you know if we needed more more vitamin C you know we wouldn't have made it on through the ice ages we wouldn't made it on these voyages and uh I you know I mean like I I haven't had a supplement in years my gums aren't bleeding feel good you know everything's fine my vitamin C very low and you know what who cares I think it's also an adjustment period maybe just your body just needs to say okay this is what we're doing this is what we've got available let's do this um I have to say I do crave organs like we've got something called we call them skul PES so it's Min I've gotten those yeah right they're delicious yeah they're really good so that's definitely like on the top of my list I was like I just told my husband like every second week or something I try I try and get something like that in um and then again don't have other Cravings but I do have like something like I feel like I feel like this but then I can distinctly say this is this is what I feel like having whereas when I was Western based it was like I'm craving something but I have no idea what it is like it's just like and then you just start stuffing your face with a whole bunch of crap and then at the end of the day you've completely overeaten and you feel like a hippo and you still haven't actually satisfied what you're actually looking for yeah well I mean that that's because your body is is chases nutrients it doesn't Chase calories and so you can have all the calories in the world and if it doesn't come with nutrients then you know your body's not going to be satisfied you your stomach actually has receptors that track up to your brain and actually you know calculate out how many macros are in the food that you just ate and that's why you can eat something your body just goes yep that's good you know or you eat all this thing and it stretches out and you're just bloated in full but you're like oh I'm still hung hungry I'm not satisfied all these sorts of things and that's why you know you eat a whole bunch of fiber and stuff like that that's why they told us in the 80s you just eat a whole bunch of fiber and it'll just fill up your stomach and it'll just trick your body into thinking that it's full and you get like no energy and nutrition from it it's like good luck with that people just got bloated miserable and they were just hungry all the time and so you know I think this is this is probably a prime culprit for you know the rise in in Eating Disorders was eating things that we weren't designed to eat and your body just is is just not having it and you don't feel happy and you're not having good results and so you end up trying to figure out what the hell you can do with that and you know you I mean you could eat you could eat a whole box full of Styrofoam too and you stretch out your stomach and you know and it's like is that is that going to trick your your brain is it going to think that you're full now too no of course not you know your your body is much more intelligent than than that idea and certainly that person who came up with that idea so you know it's uh you know when you when you eat high density nutrition you have some organs you have some meat or whatever your body just goes yeah I'm good you know and if your body's telling you have organs you especially when you're pregnant like have organs you know there's probably something in there that's that's really good really good for you really good for the baby you know liver is probably one of the best things that pregnant women can eat and breastfeeding women can eat and babies can eat and um you know even and and and it tastes so much better the less you cook it right so if you have just like just sear on the outside it's just like basically rare in the middle raw it it's you know the difference in texture and flavor is like that of seared AI to can tuna it's just it's just a completely different experience no I have to say it's I think I think that's also why I struggled with Meats at the beginning of my pregnancy because obviously everybody's like has to be cooked has to be dead I was like okay well I don't want to kill my baby um so okay cool and I I mean I've never in my life eaten nuked eggs obviously going pregnant you're like it has to be fully cooked okay cook it this is like literally pieces of rubber that you're eating and I was like I think that's also why I struggled so much to eat it because it tastes horrible and then after a while I was just like I can't I can't do this anymore so I'm having it's not as runny as I used to have it so it's a a little bit more cooked but definitely not nooked it's still a little bit runny um I definitely wouldn't recommend this if you're in a place that has a prevalence of Sal manella and things like that but I know I don't and I know we don't have that issue so I can't see I can't see the problem with it and it definitely just tastes so much better and I can actually stomach it now so I can 100% understand why you saying that yeah yeah well yeah and that's the thing too you know we sort of we overcook these things so you have to cook it all the way done it has to be lean and and then you know they're getting like the lean is cut and they're cooking it well done and then um you you're getting people saying like well I don't even really like the taste of me yeah well no one likes the taste of that that's garbage you know that poor animal died for us to live and you just just desecrated its remains you know I mean what what is wrong with you you know like have some respect for that animal you know and um you know and there's so many so many like girls in particular they'll be you know very they really listen to the guidelines with like want to avoid fat I don't want to get fat so I'm going to avoid fat so they get like you know it's it's it's like a it's like a joke among guys when you're like dating you take someone out to a fancy restaurant and they get like the Flaming yawn and they ask for it well done you're oh no you know it just hurts your soul every time you hear that you know and you're just like just don't don't order it if you don't want it all right you know just just stop it you're just you're doing it wrong and um you know they say I don't really like meat you know because they they get the flam and yawn and they cook it well done it tastes like a hockey puck like right no I don't like that either you know that's why I don't eat that you know like do it right or don't do it at all 100% it's like there's a right way to do it they should actually like ban cooking meat well done it's a should it just should not even be an option um yeah it's there there's a wrong way to do it yeah there is there was um there was that show King of the Hill I don't know if you ever saw that but it was like it was just making fun of like you know just very classic sort of like you know uh Texans you know just like workingclass Texan family it's very funny and the the dad was you know barbecuing on propane he sold propane so he's all about propane and and he's talking to his son Bobby and he's just like there Bobby now that is a perfectly done a medium rare steak you know and his son's just like well Dad but you know what if somebody doesn't want their steak medium rare is like well then you ask them politely but firmly to leave like that this is how steak supposed to be get out yeah yeah this is what it is if you don't want it then sorry you don't eat exactly um no oh back to racing to me also one thing that I find fascinating is there's people that's cutting out a complete energy stores I.E plantbased peeps but that's okay to race on like that but then why is it um considered wrong if you go protein high fat based which I feel is a complete energy source it's um got everything essential that I need but that's considered wrong well yeah it's just it's just people you know just trying to defend their ideology and just and just you know trying to you know just you know just trying to I I think just they just don't have much in their life going on you know they just have to like be people just living their life and it's just like why do you care like why do you care so much you know like someone goes out and like does something new and say hey this works for me they and they have to say oh but you can't do that oh my God why the hell not you know like you do your thing I'll do mine you want to kill yourself with you know broccoli sprouts and you know filthy cauliflower and lentils like go ahead you know no one is stopping you from eating that disgusting slop but you know like why are you getting in our way you know if we want to do something better for ourselves um you know I was thinking too like you had the macadamia nut slurry that you suck down just get like like a tube of butter you know you just s just get that down you know we should get that like packaged like a packaged tube of butter yeah yeah probably be warm so like on your your you know body heat and everything like that come just like suck Go Down Smooth proba yeah probably would it probably tastes better than the macadamia nut stuff too and uh just be get better you know ghee or you know like grass-fed Tallow or something like that the butter would probably be easy easiest though yeah I think so there's definitely different energy sources definitely need to I think also the problem is nobody really caters for animal based people like you get vegan options you get all the different types of options but going to a restaurant there's no animal fat person based diet preference it's just it's just not even thought of or considered so it's a it's I'm usually the one just like the steak without anything PE yeah well there's F piece of steak without anything yeah well there's the there's the the Wyoming steak Roundup that I I was at this year we did like a Stak judging contest you know like best steak in in the west or whatever and uh it was good it was great and um and so I'm try to try to be at there uh their their round up again this year in Wyoming uh this coming summer and what they're trying to do is they're actually going around to the restaurants and they're trying to make it like a very carnivore friendly thing so they're trying to do their theme is like this little town is like the most carnivore friendly town you know in the world and they're going to get like every single restaurant is going to have like a pure carnivore option where it's just just the meat sort of thing as well and um R yeah so it's going to be fun and um and yeah just a lot lot of meat rodeo and and uh yeah yeah so that'll be fun so maybe we can start a movement there you know to have that catch on and then people start having carnivore options and things like that I think we'll have you know I think we we've made it as soon as we have like a carnivore option on airplanes you know because they have like the vegetarian option they have like um alal option they have like keto options now some of these things you get like the carnivore option I think I think that's when you've made it you know that would be yeah that would be cool yeah yeah then I could actually eat that's the thing not that I mean like having gone this root I don't really get hungry like I mean I ate this morning what's it now I ate this morning at 10:00 it's now 4:00 and and I'm pregnant um so it's like you say you well this is what I'm trying now I eat according to my body's needs and what it tells me it was rather than just stuffing my face with stuff um so I actually got come to think of it I haven't actually gotten hungry since this morning since well since after I ate this morning um and I did a two-hour training ride so it's it's not like I just sat still the entire day it's like I had a I had a good I had a good session um so I feel like you don't need as much constant fueling as I did previously which is it's liberating because you've got so much more time during the day and also it's it's a lot freeing because I don't have to think about what to make or how to make it or the amount of prep that goes into making a normal meal there like The Chopping of the vegetables and then there's the this and there's the washing and then there's it's just like a whole entad of things that has to happen and it takes you an hour and a half 2 hours to to cook a a decent meal whereas with going animal base you just that eat so it takes a lot this time so much yeah it's so free you eat maybe once or twice a day and it takes no time to cook it very little time to eat it and then you're done you got your your whole day outside of that I mean you have hours freed up that you're not cooking about cooking think thinking about cooking or eating food you know it's just it's so freeing and like some people what do you do I mean how do you socialize how do you this I do things I do things with people that's what I do we do things you know we don't just we don't just eat all the time you know because we have like nine meals a day and you just don't have time for anything else you know so you have you have to wrap your social experience in with what you're eating or drinking because you're just always just stuffing something into your face you know now you're not so uh Marisa thank you so much it's been absolutely lovely talking to you um did you do you want to say anything else uh before we wrapped up no I think that's you basically covered everything I wanted to ask um okay it's been it's been absolute pleasure thanks so much for for putting out the time and making the time to chat to me and yeah hopefully hopefully someone else can learn something with with this chat and I think it's just the biggest thing is just open your eyes to to what possibilities are out there and I mean if you are struggling with with things maybe maybe look at your diet because I think a lot of a lot of problems can be solved with with your diet and and the way we are consuming things because if you're really healthy then maybe maybe the the diet is the cause or it can be the solution yeah absolutely well thank you very much it's it's it's AB absolutely been a pleasure like I said um can you tell us where where people can find you where they can uh you know follow you and follow your work yeah for sure it's Marisa stra um my Instagram my Twitter actually all my handles are M stra um and then you can my website is M st.com so come hit me up and give me a follow and follow along on the pregnancy rcing Journey that's going on more cariv base yeah well it would be really exciting to see you know how how this goes and when you're able to to get back in back in the saddle and and uh you know start doing these big competitions you know especially you know post pregnancy you know going out and doing you know big races and competitions I think that you'll you'll really turn some heads when you're like like she just had a baby like you know and then she crushing people in these races so I'm really excited for that for sure thanks so much duck well hopefully chat soon definitely thank you very much and thank you everyone for watching if you made it this far uh if you have please like And
